How to make Sky Lanterns

We made sky lanterns to celebrate “Diwali”, a festival of lights in India. You can find the step-by-step tutorial here:
Step 1: Make Paper Balloon
The paper balloon is made using rice papers,butter paper, kite paper or tracing paper. Butter paper works best as it has good tensile strength which prevents the paper from tearing and is easy to handle.


While sticking the sides of the butter paper make sure you stick it properly so that the hot air could not escape from it.
Step 2: Making the rim of the balloon
The open end of the balloon is stuck with a bamboo ring to attache the fuel.

Step 3: Making the Fuel
For making the fuel of Sky lantern, you need wax and napkin papers.

Step 4: Attaching the fuel

The wire used must not be very thick otherwise it may increase the weight of the sky lantern, also it should not be very thin otherwise it would melt with the heat.

Make lots of them and launch them together, sky lanterns when launched looks visually stunning. Its a very eco-friendly and beautiful way of celebrating the festival of lights.

Blue Beads Earrings

This is how I turned an old boring earning into a lovely and fashionable one. I just love to flaunt these.

Finally, stick the thread part using fevicol or fabric glue. This prevents the beads to rotate along the rim of the ring and also makes the bead layer sturdy.

Making old furnitures new

I keep shifting cities either for education or for work. Every time you shift in a new house, buying suitable furniture always sounds interesting but while shifting they make huge luggage. To avoid that I generally buy old furnitures and try to give them a make over to suit the ambiance for my home.
Here is how I made a very old wooden box into a new and lively stool.

Get your favourite colours and let the imagination flow. I painted the whole box with a single base colour and then drew patterns on all the four sides.

This is how you make the seat of the stool. Foams are available in various thickness, get a suitable one from a home furnishing shop.

The brand new stool is ready!!


The new colourful stools looks good in the garden too. And is liked by kids as well as adults.

Similarly, I painted this very old wooden rack. The person I bought this from says its almost 15 years old. I really appreciated the quality of the wood that was used. It almost looked new after painting and added a very colourful ambiance to my kitchen.

Retain the Spring and have a bright Summer!!

This is how I tried to retain the spring this summer !!
I found an old tyre tube in my backyard and converted it into a flowery lamp using series lights and paper roses.
These night blossoms make the living area very pleasant and relaxing. One of the many reasons why we always look forward to go home after work.

Cup dé light: Tutorial

We were trying to make some decorative with series lights & paper cups and came up with this.
Paper cups used for coffee, tea or water can be very easily recycled to make an eco-friendly exotic lamp.
I am just loving the ambiance light this lamp creates in our drawing room.

Every point where one layer of the cup flower comes in contact with the other layer is glued.
It takes some time for layers to get stuck with each other, so its better to finish sticking first 2 layers and then adding the 3rd one.
